Dutch Eredivisie Football 2012-2013 - Second Round Schedule Sunday

FC Groningen - Willem II

FC Groningen-fans are expecting a home when their team encounters Willem II. First there was the big loss last week when they played FC Twente (4-1). Second, their squad is reckoned to have more quality than their opponent. Then again, Willem II who promoted from the Jupiler league last year proved in the opening match that they will fight for every inch. They lost in the dying minutes of the game. Odds are against them, though. In the last 3 matches between the teams FC Groningen won all of them, scoring a total of 14 goals against 1.

Dutch Eredivisie Football 2012-2013 - Second Round Schedule Saturday

PSV - Roda JC
After their unexpected defeat last week, PSV is looking for their first points of the season against Roda JC. The perspective looks good, because PSV was able to win 5 of the last 6 meetings. The one they didn’t win ended in a goalless draw. Last year version of PSV - Roda JC ended in a 7 - 1 home-win. PSV does have a lot more players who were active during international friendlies midweek, but we think that so early in the season it should not play a big role.

Rupert Murdoch Takes Over Eredivisie Live

Rupert Murdoch has bought a majority interest of 51% in Eredivisie Media and marketing. Murdoch’s U.S. television network Fox will pay more than €1 billion for the rights of the Dutch Eredivisie, starting season 2013-2014. This will be for the next 12 years, according to local and international media.
The teams, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and entertainment company Endemol are said to have accepted Murdoch’s proposal unanimously. This is the largest deal in the history of Dutch Eredivisie football.
It appears Murdoch has big plans to expand in Europe. Earlier this year he bought the rights of the German Bundesliga under the name Sky.

Currently the highlights are being aired by the Dutch NOS, who would like to do so in the future as well. Still, the network director did mention they won’t do that against every price. If it looks like there might be a bad ROI they will pass. So at this stage it is unclear how all of this will affect the viewers.

Dutch Eredivisie Football 2012-2013 - First Round Results and Review

Willem II – NAC Breda 1-1
The season opened with a regional derby between 2 archrivals.
Willem II, promoted from the Jupiler league, played very well against NAC Breda. Jens Podevijn gave Willem II the lead in the 79th minute, after good work from Virgil Misidjan.
They were very close to a surprise, but NAC-striker Anthony Lurling scored the equalizer in the last minutes of the game with a nice goal.

RKC Waalwijk – PSV 3-2
Perhaps the biggest surprise this weekend came from RKC Waalwijk – PSV.

Dutch Eredivisie Football 2012-2013 - First Round Schedule

The first round of the Dutch league is just days away and we might get to see a few interesting matches over the weekend.

This year we start with a regional derby between Willem II and NAC. It is also Willem II’s re-entrance in the Eredivisie, after playing a year in the Jupiler league. We hope it will do them well, because they weren’t able to win the last 5 games against their arch-rivals NAC Breda. Their kick off is on Friday.

Saturday PSV Eindhoven travels to face their neighbors RKC Waalwijk. PSV are the favorites to win, but last season RKC did win their home-game against them.

Dutch Eredivisie Football 2012-2013 - A New Season

Season 2012-2013 starts a few days from now. Fans from everywhere, not just Holland, have been looking forward to this. I know I have!

We want to know how Ajax will do, winning the league now twice in a row. It looks like this year they will have to depend on the youth academy. But many fans and followers, if not most, still think they can do it. Well, being from Amsterdam, it is my team and I think the same.
It will get challenging, though. We are yet to see how they react after losing Captain Jan Vertonghen, voted best player in the Eredivisie last season. It gives other the chance to step up, but we’ll have to wait and see if they do.

Most of the media, it seems, bets on a different horse. Rival PSV Eindhoven is considered the favorite this year and honestly, they make a strong case. Good signings and appointing Dick Advocaat as coach probably will work out well. And they haven’t been champion for 4 years now.
